Dont fall for the google is everything trap.

remember to build or optimise sites for yahoo & MSN too.

Remember - when windows vista is released MSN live search will be on zillions of desktops when people get vista - google will lose a large chunk of traffic. ( look at how google are pushing their toolbar in google.com now - they know its coming)

Also Yahoo will be forced to make some sort of move to keep up - so get listed there in case they do something big.

Anyways - all traffic is good traffic!

Oh and btw - google and other engines images traffic is not "crap" as most people claim. You can monetize it if you use it well.

You can find some good basic information at Web Workshop (http://www.webworkshop.net/). They have a message board also.

My best read would have to be here:

http://www.google.co.uk/intl/en/webmasters/

Also join up - (if ya need a gmail account holler.) Join the forums and read and ask questions. Lots of very clever people in there.

Pay particular attention to google sitemaps.

gsitecrawler is a free and very useful tool to make them with

dont forget to submit your sites to

http://dmoz.org The human edited web directory.

It can take time to get listed but once you are you get a boost in all the other engines. make sure you choose the right category before you submit.

Hi Paul,
This is my first posting... hope I'm doing this right. Can you please tell me how to get listed in yahoo? My site has been up for over a year - I've submitted to yahoo several times over the year but it's never shown up in their search. For some strange reason my site was added to the directory but it doesn't bring much traffic. I'd like to get in the yahoo search. What do I need to know? Is there a way to optimize for it as we do for google?

Thanks bunches for any help you can offer.

I've been getting some pretty good listings on Bing for my sites without submitting there. It's getting so I'm getting more traffic from them every day. Anyone else notice this too ?
